My Instructional Technical Philosophy
Below is my philosophy of how technology should be incorporated into classrooms to help develop and implement curriculum.
Technology has connected individuals worldwide and provided humans with tools to make their lives easier. The issue lies in the education on how to use different technologies correctly and appropriately. Educators teach various lessons throughout the day, and now, they must include how to use technology. It is the school's responsibility to ensure every student attempts to be a positive member of society, and learning how to use technology appropriately is becoming a priority today (Jonri & Hingle, 2023).
A benefit of using technology is the students' access to information. With the Internet, students can explore different concepts in great detail. Their research into the topics can help them better understand a specific idea. On the other hand, access to information can be an issue. Freedom of information is essential, but teaching students to interpret the data and verify the sources is crucial. Interpretation and verification of information are skills the students will use for the rest of their personal and academic lives.
A blended learning experience is a great tool to use in the classroom because the student is not simply dependent on technology (Liman Kaban et al., 2024). Combining both aspects helps to add to the whole student. In the real world, internet and technology outages are an issue. For example, sometimes my projector has broken, or the Internet is out, but that does not mean I do not teach that day. Teaching students that they can still accomplish tasks without technology will help them not rely solely on it.
When students in my class work on independent projects, where they create a product to interpret a lesson or an event, I act as a facilitator. They will come to my desk and ask me for some information. I immediately ask, "Did you google it before you asked me?". If they answer yes, we have the conversation to verify whether the information is correct or incorrect. If the student says no, I will say Google before you ask me. I ask the question because I want my students to use their resources to their fullest potential. Understanding that, with technology, they have the power to forge their path to success is essential in my classroom.
Technology has become mandatory in every aspect of our lives. Understanding how to use different technologies and responsibilities has become essential to student education. Educators must help develop positive and productive members of society to help society grow.
